Beginners

Beginner’s Mind is highly regarded in Zen. Whether this is our first time in the zendo or the 3000th, we are always asked to cultivate Beginner’s Mind.

Traditionally, newcomers to the zendo are invited to just follow along as best they are able, without a lot of instruction.  Soon, zendo etiquette is learned and embodied.  If you have questions, just ask.   You are encouraged to sit comfortably upright, whether that means on a cushion or on a chair.

Instruction for zen meditation is given by request on Saturday mornings and before retreats, or in private study with a teacher.

Beginning meditators are warmly welcome. It doesn’t matter what age you are or what spiritual or religious tradition you already practice. Meditation began long before the Buddha and flowers to this very day because of its proven benefits to the body-mind of those who practice.
